White desert
In 2010 I was allowed to tour the beautiful area between the Bahariya oasis and Farafra with a small group of enthusiastic photographers. The destination was the White Desert, which lies in the Egyptian part of the Libyan Desert.
It is known thanks to the white limestone found there, which is called the pack ice of the White Desert. Eroded limestone formations form unique, bizarre structures that, with a little imagination, can be recognized as fish or mushrooms, rhinos or aliens.
In 2002 the White Desert and its surroundings were declared a national park.
