Rapa Nui

Somewhere in the vastness of the South Pacific lies Rapa Nui, Easter Island. Shortly after its discovery in 1722, the small island became world-famous for the large number of colossal figures (Moai), which the residents put up on ceremonial platforms (Ahu) around the island.

The photographer documents this mysterious island with unusual infrared images in black and white.

Wolfgang Wiesen (DE)

Wolfgang Wiesen lives in Saarland and has been a well-known photographer in Germany and abroad for many years. A number of his photographic works have received awards in competitions and have been presented in magazine publications as well as in individual and group exhibitions nationally and internationally.

His main areas of work are experimental photography, portrait photography and black and white photography with a focus on infrared. B / W photos taken with infrared technology show us a world that does not correspond to our everyday viewing habits: deep black sky with clearly accentuated clouds, brightly shining vegetation, structures reduced to a few gray values with high contrast, dark water surfaces and all of this presented in a vibrating image grain.

The current project work on Easter Island Rapa Nui, for which he was awarded the honorary title Maître FIAP (MFIAP) by the Fédération Internationale de l'Art Photographique, is characteristic of this special type of photography “on a different wavelength”.

In addition to working as an active photographer, Wolfgang Wiesen volunteers in the German Association for Photography (DVF), of which he is currently Vice President.
