Relics of a Utopia
With the Spomeniks (German: monuments), Tito's architects created a bizarre utopia made of concrete and steel: brutalist monuments were erected in honor of the partisans in places of tragic World War history - a scene of the future was built on the bloody past. However, since the Yugoslavian wars of the 90s, many of these memorial sites have been forgotten, as they are symbols of the controversial Tito regime.
