Afghan Box Camera – Portraits for relaxed people
Experience the magic of analogue instant photography with the Afghan Box Camera. Have your portrait taken - or take a portrait of your loved ones yourself. While your picture is being taken, Felix Maurer will explain to you how this primitive camera works. You can keep the portraits. They are free of charge, but the photographer would be happy to receive a voluntary contribution towards expenses.
Taking photographs with the Afghan Box Camera is a traditional craft from the first half of the 20th century. It combines a camera and a darkroom in a wooden box and allows you to take pictures directly on site - analogue, unique and honest.
This technique is fascinating because of its simplicity. It reminds us how beautiful slow, handmade creation is. You can experience every step from the shot to the finished paper image. You will learn how this camera works, from taking the photo to developing and fixing.
Felix Maurer
Felix Maurer is an amateur photographer and is fascinated by experimental photographic techniques. He is particularly fond of the Afghan Box Camera. Slow photography, the appeal of imperfection and allowing for chance have probably never been as important as in our fast-paced, hectic times. Felix Maurer finds peace and relaxation in the slow pace of this activity.
