Counterparts

The exhibition Counterparts takes us on a journey around the world. We are looking for the right counterpart to an image. The journey leads through 10 countries on four continents and shows us very different pairs of images.
Each pair of images complements each other and forms a harmonious unit based on opposites. If we look for similarities and contrasts in the pictures, we find that we often perceive the same thing as contradicting at first glance and the analogies only become clear at second glance.
The exhibition invites us into the ambivalent world of its counterparts.

Matthias Gaberthüel

Matthias Gaberthüel's photographic interests are diverse and this is also reflected in his extensive portfolio. He has been on the go with his camera for more than two decades and through his job as an agricultural
he has been able to travel large parts of the world as a scientist. The travels inspire him again and again and influence his works. His visual language is based on aesthetics and harmony in interaction with art and technology. Matthias lives with his family in the Leimental near Basel.
