125 years of the Photographic Society of Bern - BMPs

The PGB, the oldest photo club in Bern, is celebrating its anniversary with various exhibitions.

In the "Freizythuus" in Münsingen, eight photographers each show their view of the topic "biodiversity" with a tableau. We also show a tableau with pictures by Peter Wernli, a long-standing PGB, PhotoSuisse and FIAP member and well-known photographer who unfortunately passed away last year.

The following short tours through the exhibition are offered:
Thursday, May 25.5.2017, 11.00, XNUMX a.m., with Hein Hustinx
Saturday, May 27.5.2017th, 14.00, XNUMX p.m., with Hans Sahli

The main exhibition will take place in the Botanical Garden in Bern from June 17 to July 2, 2017. 20 vertical plant panoramas bring the visitor at eye level from the ground via stems to leaves and flowers, revealing fine, otherwise barely visible details on the plants. Meticulously composed of 5 to 10 pictures, these large-format plant panoramas presented a real challenge to practice. The impressive results are exhibited in the orangery.

PGB members show photographs on the subject of “biodiversity” under yellow parasols spread all over the garden. The visual-artistic approach to this complex topic can be explored in a stimulating walk through the BOGA.

We are looking forward to your visit.

Bern Photographic Society - BMPs

The development of the oldest photo club in the city of Bern began like a thriller.
Founded in 1892 by the physicist Prof. Dr. Aimé Forster (1843–1926), professor of astronomy at the University of Bern. He experimented passionately with the then new X-rays first noticed by Röntgen. He was fascinated by color photography, which was given a decisive boost in 1907 by the Lumière brothers' autochrome process. The PGB is proud of this ancestor.

Well, time has not stood still and there has been a giant leap from the analog photo world to the digital one. Even if one or the other could not come to terms with it immediately, it is certainly exciting and inspiring to develop your pictures instead of in the darkroom, to be able to examine, edit and print them out on the computer.

One thing seems certain that there is a consensus between analog and digital photography: photography is and remains photography.
And the colorful, creative PGB team has one thing: the joy and passion of photography!

The photo club has been under the expert management of President Hans-Rudolf Negri for some time.
The club evenings every Tuesday at 20 p.m. at Falkenplatz 9 promote and maintain friendly relationships with lectures, discussions, picture reviews, travel reports, competitions, group work, exhibitions, etc.
Membership in Photo Suisse, the Swiss Association for Photography and in FIAP, Fédération Internationale de l'Art Photographique, is a plus.

The PGB looks forward to trial visits from interested parties in its club cellar.
