Vestiges – The End of Something

Andrea Knechtle travels through Europe in her bus again and again. Abandoned places are her passion. Driven by curiosity about forgotten spaces and amazement at the traces of past lives, Andrea Knechtle captures her impressions with her camera. Her subjectively designed documentation of the inexorable decay of everything earthly reflects the quiet horror of the end of something, as well as the magical transfiguration of disappearance over time.

The photos shown are excerpts from the illustrated book “Vestiges – The End of Something”, which was published in a small edition in 2023. Pictures from Germany, France, Italy, Portugal and Switzerland are supplemented with short stories about objects. In free reference to the photographic imagery, imaginary witnesses evoke fictitious memories of their lost places in their fictitious lives. The author Markus Maeder wrote these texts and a selection of them can be read on two boards using a QR code.
