From pictures to music to pictures
In 1874 Modest Mussorgsky composed his piano cycle “Pictures at an Exhibition”. He was inspired to do this by the memorial exhibition of his painter friend Victor Hartmann. For Photo Münsingen, Seraina Marchal took the opposite approach: she was inspired by the work and the titles of the individual movements and created her own Photographs. The pianist Martin Klopfenstein plays the piano version of Mussorgsky's “Pictures at an Exhibition” on the driveway. At the same time, Seraina Marchal's newly created images are projected onto a large screen.
